The premium Danish bakery group currently operates 25 cafés within Meny supermarket stores and plans to open a further 10 by the end of 2026
Denmark’s Lagkagehuset has strengthened its partnership with Scandinavian supermarket chain Meny to open 10 new in-store cafés across its Danish estate.
Copenhagen-based Lagkagehuset first partnered with Meny in 2015 and currently operates 25 bakery-cafés across its 116-store supermarket network in Denmark. The first in-store café of the renewed partnership opened in Risskov Brynet in February 2025 with a second site to open in Horsens in May 2025.
“For more than 10 years, Lagkagehuset and Meny have developed a close collaboration through the 25 Lagkagehuset stores, which are located in Meny all over Denmark – from Hjørring to Haderslev and Herning to Espergærde. Therefore, it has been quite natural for both parties to develop this partnership further. Today, we are very proud to announce that over the next 12-18 months, we will open 10 new stores in collaboration with Meny,” said Lagkagehuset CEO Joachim Knudsen.
Founded in Norway 1992, Meny expanded to Denmark in 2015 as part of a deal with Danish retail giant Dagrofa Group.
Alongside the expanded Meny partnership, Lagkagehuset has also signed a distribution deal with Dagrofa’s foodservice division, granting responsibility for food deliveries across its 108 bakery-cafés in Denmark from 12 May 2025.
The agreement covers all foods sold and used by Lagkagehuset, including milk, juice, butter, cold cooked meats and coffee, with the exception of the premium bakery-café chain’s own baked goods.
In a joint press release, Lagkagehuset and Dagrofa Foodservice said the consolidation of deliveries will reduce their collective climate footprints and strengthen operational efficiency.
“The agreement is a good example of how two large-scale food companies can create value by thinking about retail and distribution together,” said Michael Christensen, CEO, Dagrofa Foodservice.
Founded in 1991, Lagkagehuset expanded internationally in 2016 with a store in London before entering the US three years later. The premium bakery-café chain, which trades as Ole & Steen internationally, currently operates 26 stores in the UK alongside six sites in the US.
