Starbucks Korea moves to restore trust with new CEO
Shinsegae Group, the retail conglomerate that licenses Starbucks in South Korea, is seeking to move on from its May 2026 ‘Tank Day’ PR controversy with a new CEO. The Seoul-based group has also nominated Chairman Chung Yong-jin as the new CEO of its E-Mart subsidiary, which manages the day-to-day operations of the 2,100-store licensed coffee shop business.

The RBI joint-venture is pressing ahead with its low-capital, low-risk sub-franchise strategy and has onboarded a new CEO to spearhead its push for profitability. The move has seen former CEO, Yongchen Lu, who had led Tims China since its launch in 2019, transition to Chairman of the Board.
