Nespresso to phase out home compostable paper coffee capsules

The B Corp launched the range across 14 European markets, but is now focused on recycling aluminium capsules following concerns over shelf life

Swiss coffee pod giant Nespresso has confirmed that it will phase out its range of home compostable paper capsules, three-and-a-half years after bringing them to market.

The Nestlé-owned business developed the product in partnership with Finnish packaging giant Huhtamäki and launched it in Switzerland and France in the first quarter of 2023. The paper coffee capsules were then rolled out across a further 12 European markets as part of a multi-year trial.
