The opening of Starbucks' 500th store in Indonesia coincides with the coffee chain marking 20 years of operating in the South Asian country
Starbucks has reached its 500-store landmark in Indonesia, the Seattle-based coffee chain's tenth largest market.
Since opening in Indonesia in 2002, Starbucks has invested heavily in the country. The new store, located in North Kuta, Bali, is the 55th Starbucks drive-thru location after the chain introduced the format in Indonesia in 2019.
The Seattle-based coffee chain also chose Indonesia for its 17th Starbucks Reserve store and opened the Dewata Coffee Sanctuary in 2019 with a ‘fully immersive bean-to-cup experience’.
A new Coffee Experience Center was opened within the Dewata complex to provide homage to Indonesia’s rich coffee heritage earlier this year.
Starbucks Indonesia operates outlets in 36 cities and has more than 4,300 employees.

Since entering the market 20 years ago, Indonesia has become the 10th largest market globally for Starbucks and we remain committed to serving more customers and communities for the long-term,” said Michael Conway, Group President, Starbucks International.
Indonesia’s branded café market has seen a flurry of investment over the last 12 months. In January 2022, premium coffee chain Kopi Kenangan attained $96m investment and now operates more than 600 stores across 45 cities in Indonesia, making it the largest branded coffee chain in the country ahead of Starbucks.
In May 2022, South Korea’s SPC Group opened three new Paris Baguette stores in Indonesia, bringing its store count to seven in the country, while Indonesian coffee startup Fore Coffee recently opened 42 new outlets in several metropolitan cities such as Denpasar, Palembang, Yogyakarta, Malang and Batam.
