The value-focused operator has partnered with Fenwick to open its latest themed pop-up, The Golden Flake Tavern, following successful fine dining bistro and pop-up champagne bar concepts at the department store
Greggs has unveiled a pop-up pub concept in Newcastle, serving the food-to-go chain’s classic bakes and sausage rolls alongside coffee, cocktails and exclusive beers.
The Golden Flake Tavern opened at the Fenwick Newcastle department store on 27 September 2025, with value-focused Greggs offering customers a ‘full pub experience’. The 88-capacity site will be open until 15 February 2026.
Alongside a carvery, the venue’s food menu includes Sausage Roll & Mash, Steak Bake Mixed Grill and Chicken Bake Parmo. The alcohol range includes sweet treat-inspired tipples, such as Pink Jammie IPA, brewed by Newcastle-based Full Circle Brew Co., and Spiced Caramel Doughnut Old Fashioned and Pink Jammie Fizz cocktails.
The Golden Flake is the latest collaboration between Greggs and Fenwick and follows the launch of a limited-time ‘fine dining’ Greggs bistro in December 2023 and a pop-up champagne bar in October 2024.
“Following the reaction and success of our previous collaborations with Fenwick, we’re thrilled to be launching our third landmark venture together. The Golden Flake Tavern brings a fresh twist to the traditional British pub experience,” said Hannah Squirrell, Customer Director, Greggs.
The pop-up pub is the latest publicity stunt for Greggs, which has collaborated with several high-profile brands in recent years.
In February 2022, Greggs and high street retailer Primark unveiled a ‘Tasty by Greggs’ café concept and collaborated on a limited-edition clothing line, with the majority of merchandise selling out within two days
In July 2024, Greggs partnered with digital-first UK bank Monzo to launch a pop-up ATM machine which dispensed free sausage rolls, and saw its iconic product unveiled at Madame Tussauds London waxworks museum 12 months later.
