Adding to similar facilities in Spain and Vietnam, the 570sq ft site in Linhares will process coffee beans into spray-dried and freeze-dried instant coffee for export to the US, Europe, the Middle East and Japan

Olam Food Ingredients (ofi), part of Singapore-based food and agri-business Olam Group, has opened a state-of-the-art instant coffee facility in Linhares, Brazil.

The 570sq ft site will turn coffee from ofi’s nine Brazilian coffee processing plants into premium, Rainforest Alliance-certified instant coffee products, including spray-dried, freeze-dried and liquid concentrates.

In a press release, ofi said the Linhares site adds to existing instant coffee processing capacity in Spain and Vietnam and strengthens its position as one of the largest coffee exporters in Brazil.

The facility is powered by 100% renewable electricity and biomass boilers that convert coffee production waste into energy as part of ofi’s Choices for Change sustainability strategy.

“By processing coffee at the source, we’re strengthening our integrated supply chain and farmer partnerships to deliver traceable, sustainable soluble coffee products to our customers. A strengthened innovation infrastructure focusing on value-added coffee products will build growth opportunities in South and North America, while also serving consumption markets in Europe and Asia,” said Vivek Verma, ofi’s Managing Director & CEO, Coffee.

ofi began sourcing and processing coffee in Brazil in 2002 and currently exports roast, ground and instant coffee from the South American country to international customers in the US, Europe, the Middle East and Japan. The group has three offices in Brazil and also owns the Milano Farm in Bahia, where it produces premium arabica coffee.
