Robert Moorhead joins the food-to-go and coffee chain after more than 20 years at UK retailer WH Smith, including 16 as Chief Financial Officer and 11 as Chief Operating Officer
UK food-to-go and coffee chain Greggs has appointed WH Smith veteran Robert Moorhead as an independent Non-Executive Director, effective 1 October 2025.
Moorhead, who will chair Greggs’ Audit Committee, brings extensive financial and operational experience to the position.
He joined WH Smith as Finance Director for Retail in 2004 before being promoted to Chief Financial Officer in 2008 and taking on additional Chief Operating Officer responsibilities in 2013. Moorhead held both senior roles until his retirement in November 2024.
“We are delighted that Robert has accepted our invitation to join the Board. His financial expertise in a listed company environment, together with his significant experience in retail will be of great benefit to our business,” said Matt Davies, Chairman, Greggs.
Newcastle-upon-Tyne-based Greggs announced Moorhead’s appointment alongside its half-year earnings release. The group reported a half-year profit decline for the first six months of 2025 as adverse weather in the UK and ongoing store refurbishments dented footfall and like-for-like sales. Operating profits fell 7.1% year-on-year during the 26 weeks ended 28 June 2025 to £70.4m ($93.9m), while pre-tax profits declined 14.3% to £63.5m ($84.7m).
