Italian espresso has profoundly influenced the development of UK coffee culture, but as the market embraces US, Australian and East Asian beverage trends, can this Turin-based brand change the narrative?
There was a time in the 1990s and 2000s when getting a cappuccino was the height of sophistication in the UK. To this day, branded coffee chain market leaders, Costa Coffee, Caffè Nero and Starbucks, still trade on their ‘authentic’ Italian espresso credentials.
However, they’ve also embraced Aussie flat whites, US cold brew and Japanese matcha in a UK coffee market that has developed hugely over the last 25 years.
Now, one Turin-based coffee roaster is banking on a revival of Italian traditions that spurred the UK’s second-wave coffee movement.
