Once the jewel of India’s coffee shop market Café Coffee Day was on the brink of collapse in 2019. Seven years later, new earnings indicate a remarkable comeback is well underway

Once India’s largest coffee chain, embattled Café Coffee Day (CCD) is quietly brewing a comeback.

The Bengaluru-based business turned its first annual profit last year since the death of its founder, V.G. Siddhartha, in 2019 – an event which preceded the discovery of hundreds of millions of dollars in debt and kickstarted seven years of stores closures.

Now, under the leadership of Siddhartha’s widow, Malavika Hegde, CCD is once again profitable.
