As the world’s second-largest coffee producer, Vietnam has cultivated deep cultural traditions around its most famous export. But beyond robusta blends, instant coffee and Cà phê sữa đá, there’s a universe of quality that Every Half wants the world to explore. Michael Lyons caught up with the specialty coffee roaster and café group’s CEO and co-founder, Vo Duy Phu, to find out more about Vietnam’s new era of coffee excellence
Founded by Tran Le Minh Truc and Vo Duy Phu in 2021, Every Half operates 29 outlets in Ho Chi Minh City. With a mission to champion Vietnamese specialty coffee at home and on the world stage, sustainability-focused Every Half is involved in seed selection, post-harvest processing and fermentation.
It roasts all coffee for its outlets and direct-to-consumer business at two roasteries in the Vo Thi Sau and Thao Dien districts of Ho Chi Minh City. The group also partners with Vietnamese coffee cooperatives to establish nurseries for new climate-adaptive coffee varieties, including Liberica, Starmaya, and Marsellesa.
