Norwegian specialty coffee roaster, cafè chain and bar concept Fuglen Coffee is set to launch in Indonesia at the Ashta District 8 shopping centre in Jakarta.  
 

An opening date is yet to be confirmed, but hoarding shows Fuglen Coffee’s espresso and cocktail bar will be located next to Café Kitsuné in the 161,000sq ft mall. 

The Oslo-based business joins Indonesian coffee chains Common Grounds and Bleum Coffee as well as international operators % Arabica, Paris Baguette and The Coffee Academics at the ‘premium lifestyle’ venue.   

Fuglen – meaning bird in Norwegian – was founded in 1963 and opened its first coffee and cocktail bar in Tokyo in 2012. Fuglen Coffee Roasters was founded in Japan in 2014 and enabled the brand to expand its Europe and North America wholesale business to Asia.

The specialty coffee roaster and cafè chain currently operates two outlets in Norway and six sites in Japan. 

World Coffee Portal research shows the Indonesian branded coffee shop market grew 10% last year to exceed 4,700 outlets and is forecast to reach 9,490 outlets in 2028.
