The Nairobi-based group is the largest branded coffee chain in East Africa, with outlets across Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda
Kenyan coffee and casual dining group Java House has reached 100 outlets across East Africa with a new outlet in Kampala, Uganda.
Founded in Nairobi in 1999, Java House is now the largest coffee chain in the region with stores across Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda. The company’s 100th outlet is a smaller-format Express site, focused on speed-of-service and catering to on-the-go customers. The model has become a popular store design for Java House in Uganda, with Express sites also operating in Najjera and Muyenga.
“The Express format has proven to be a game changer for our urban customers,” said Eusila Jepleting, General Manager, Java House Uganda. ”From our humble beginnings to now being East Africa’s largest coffee chain, we are proud to carry the flag for African brands that dare to dream big.”
In January 2025, ownership of Java House changed hands for the fourth time in 12 years after Alterra Capital and Phatisa Group acquired the business for an undisclosed sum.
