1. Coca-Cola reportedly pulls plug on Costa Coffee sale

Costa Coffee remains in limbo after beverage giant Coca-Cola reportedly failed in its bid to offload the struggling UK coffee chain. Talks with private equity firms TDR Capital and Bain Capital ended in December 2025, according to a new report by the Financial Times, despite a late push by Atlanta-based Coca-Cola to get a deal over the line.

2. US drive-thru coffee competition enters new phase as Dutch Bros acquires rival 

Currently the largest drive-thru coffee chain in the US, Arizona-based Dutch Bros has moved to steal a march on its rivals after agreeing a deal to acquire one of its competitors. In addition to bolstering Dutch Bros’ store network on the US East Coast, the acquisition could have significant ramifications on how fast-growing drive-thru specialists seek to gain the upper hand in this increasingly competitive coffee shop segment.
