These nimble operators are enjoying surging demand for specialty coffee, personalised hospitality and in-store ambience in the UK. But they are also more vulnerable to price inflation than their branded coffee chain competitors with far greater economies of scale.
Based on a survey of 2,000-plus UK independent coffee shop consumers and 80 industry leader consultations, here are three key report findings – exclusive for World Coffee Portal subscribers.
1. Sales and outlet growth up, but many UK independents are under pressure
The Independents Report UK 2026 shows that the total UK independent coffee shop market grew 3.3% to reach 13,211 outlets over the last 12 months. Total annual store sales also rose 3.8% to £5.1bn.
