Pret A Manger has reduced the price of six of its best-selling sandwiches in the UK by an average 12% as it seeks to broaden its appeal among increasingly price conscious UK consumers.

The price of a Posh Cheddar baguette has fallen 20% from £4.99 ($6.29) to £3.99 ($5.03), with a Tuna & Cucumber sandwich reduced 16% from £3.55 ($4.47) to £2.99 ($3.77).

Pret’s Pole & Line Caught Tuna baguette, Jambon Beurre, Egg Mayo sandwich and Cheese Toastie have also seen price reductions.

Pret A Manger, which increased the cost of its food and beverage subscription from £25 ($31.51) to £30 ($37.81) last year, said it has been looking for opportunities ‘to bring down prices where possible’.

“We’ve been looking at opportunities to bring down our prices where possible. Earlier this year, we reduced the prices on six of our freshly made bestselling sandwiches and baguettes by over 10% on average, including the much-loved Tuna Mayo Baguette and Jambon Beurre. Our Club Pret subscribers would also receive an additional 20% off these products, as well as across our entire menu,” said Clare Clough, UK & Ireland Managing Director, Pret A Manger.

World Coffee Portal research found that UK industry leaders consider price consciousness as the second most important trend currently affecting the UK coffee shop market, behind support for independent coffee shops. Value-focused consumption is also among the five most significant trends, alongside economic uncertainty and the growth of specialty coffee.

The price reductions are the latest move by Pret A Manger to attract a wider range of consumers in the UK.

In February 2023 the coffee and food-to-go chain commenced an overhaul of its UK beverage offering, which included replacing its frappe smoothie ranges with a barista-prepared iced beverages menu.

Two months later, the JAB Holding-backed business rebranded its Pret Coffee Subscription to Club Pret and introduced a 10% discount on all in-store food alongside the existing five beverages per day offer.

Pret A Manger further advanced its goal of reaching ‘a more diverse customer-base' with the rollout of its ‘Little Pret Stars’ children's menu in January 2024. Additionally, Pret has introduced a wider range of vegetarian and vegan products across its 463 UK store network, incorporating learnings from its Veggie Pret concept stores.
