Germany’s Coffee Fellows has opened its first store in the US, a drive-thru site in Houston.
Coffee Fellows announced plans to enter the US market in February 2023 and expects to open three further outlets in Texas in 2023 ahead of 10-25 stores across the state over the next two years.
“We are excited to bring our European coffee concept to the US as well as open our first ever drive-thru stores, to better serve American urban communities. We plan to customise our menu offerings to suit American preferences, but guests can anticipate the comfortable, friendly European ambiance our brand is known for, and feel confident in the mission of sustainability that is close to our hearts and is part of everything we do,” said Stefan Tewes, CEO, Coffee Fellows.
The Munich-based coffee chain’s US growth will be led by its Coffee Fellows North America Corp. subsidiary under the management of CEO Daniel Ogbonna and Chief Operating Officer Chris Fannin.
“Houston is a coffee-loving town, and we are excited that Coffee Fellows’ US expansion is starting here. We are pleased that we’ll be roasting our coffee and sourcing our produce locally, to create a fresh, original menu that supports the community,” Fannin added.
Founded in 1999, Coffee Fellows currently operates 220 stores across Germany and manages a further 19 outlets across Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Luxembourg, Malta, Mongolia, the Netherlands, Spain and Switzerland.
Coffee Fellows is the third largest coffee-focused chain in Germany, behind McCafé and Tchibo Kaffee Bar, and is currently the only German coffee chain currently in the 31,300-strong US branded coffee shop market, according to Project Café USA 2023.
