Scooter’s Coffee has opened its 500th outlet in the US as it continues rapid expansion across the country.
The Nebraska-based drive-thru coffee chain is currently one of the fastest growing branded coffee companies in the US, increasing its store count by 25% in the 12 months to August 2022.
Scooter’s Coffee’s growth plans include reaching 800 stores by the end of next year and 1,000 stores by the end of 2024.
The company operates in 28 states, with the 500th store opening in Orlando, Florida.
World Coffee Portal research found that US coffee chains achieved a robust $4.5bn sales rebound in 2022, representing sales growth of 10% over the last 12 months.
The total number of outlets has exceeded 2019 levels, increasing 2.8% over the 12 months ended September 2022 to reach 38,411 stores.
Although consumer demand for drive-thru has slowed following the easing of Covid-19 in-store trading restrictions, the format has maintained its appeal. Fifty-four percent of US customers surveyed by World Coffee Portal August 2022 indicated a preference for drive-thru over physically entering a coffee shop.
In November 2022, Scooter’s Coffee relocated its Omaha headquarters in a move to enhance the company’s ‘collaboration and innovation goals’.
The 100,000sq ft office building houses several core departments, including operations, marketing, human resources, finance, IT and legal, which will provide additional support for Scooter’s Coffee’s franchisees across the US.
