UK-based coffee chain Boston Tea Party has appointed former Las Iguanas executive Lucy Harwood as its new Brand & Marketing Director.

Harwood joins the sustainability-focused business having served 23 years at casual dining restaurant chain Las Iguanas, first as Head of Brand and most recently as Brand & Marketing Director from June 2018.

“I’ve been a huge fan of Boston Tea Party since the original café opened in Park Street, Bristol, in the 1990s. To be given the opportunity to support the fantastic team in continuing to grow such an ethical and exciting business is a real joy,” Harwood told World Coffee Portal.

Founded in 1995, Boston Tea Party currently operates 23 stores across the UK, primarily in the South West and the Midlands.

In April 2018, the coffee chain became the first in the UK to fully remove disposable cups from its stores and require takeaway coffee customers to bring their own a re-usable cup or borrow a loan cup.

To-date, the policy has prevented nearly one million single-use coffee cups from going to landfill, according to the Boston Tea Party website.

The coffee chain’s other sustainability initiatives include using green energy across its stores, a ban on plastic bottles and straws and a commitment to sending zero waste to landfill.
