Philadelphia-based specialty coffee roaster and retailer Rival Bros. Coffee has appointed Chris Miller as its new Senior Vice President of Coffee.

Miller joins Rival Bros. from fellow Pennsylvania-based specialty roaster La Colombe, where he served as Director of Coffee from 2006 until December 2023. He will oversee Rival Bros. Coffee’s internal education programmes and work to expand the business’ coffee sourcing programme.

“I look forward to broadening Rival Bros.’ physical and virtual footprint while ensuring a greater, company-wide understanding of coffee’s production processes and cultural value. As an essential piece of so many peoples’ day, good coffee shouldn’t be complicated, and I’m excited to grow our cafés and nationwide business with new serves that are accessible to all,” Miller said.

Founded as a coffee truck business by Damien Pileggi and Jonathan Adams in 2011, Rival Bros. now operates a roastery, two cafés and a cocktail-bar alongside its wholesale and online direct-to-consumer channels. The coffee roaster is set to open a third café later this year.

“As a former colleague of Chris’, I know that his unmatched expertise and relationships in the world of coffee are essential to our future. We are thrilled to have him on our team,” Pileggi added.
