Pret A Manger has opened its first store in Spain, a 5,700sq ft outlet at Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport in partnership with Portugal-based franchisee Ibersol Group. 
 

The UK coffee and food-to-go chain announced its franchise partnership with the multi-brand restaurant operator in June 2022 as part of wider plans to double the size of its business within five years. 

Ibersol Group plans to open 70 Pret A Manger stores across Spain and Portugal by 2033 with a focus on major cities and key transport hubs.

Pret A Manger currently operates more than 660 stores across 16 markets globally. 

Its first store in Spain forms part of an outlet expansion drive across continental Europe which saw the chain debut in Luxembourg and Italy earlier this year. 
 

In June 2023 global travel concession operator SSP Group acquired franchise rights to scale Pret A Manger in German-speaking Switzerland, where it currently has eight stores. 

Last month, Pret A Manger announced plans to more than double its presence in Germany, with five new outlets slated to open in Berlin by the end of 2023 via new franchise partner PM Nord GmbH. 

Alongside 450 stores in its native UK market, Pret A Manger also operates in Ireland, France and Belgium, as well as the US, Canada, UAE, Kuwait, India, Hong Kong and Singapore.
