Olam Food Ingredients (ofi) has acquired Coffee Club, one of Canada’s largest coffee roasters and and private label coffee suppliers.
 
The CA$150m ($117m) transaction is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2022, subject to regulatory approval.
 
Founded in 1906, Toronto-based Coffee Club owns the Club Coffee Craft Roasters, Good host, Simply Sensational and Beaniac coffee brands. It distributes to both Canadian and US customers via online marketplace, Amazon, and produces a range of compostable coffee pods for both at-home and wholesale customers.
 
In a press release, ofi said the acquisition aligned with its strategy to provide a diverse and sustainable portfolio of beverage brands around the world, adding that its private label and co-manufactured channel is an ‘attractive, high value and growing’ part of its portfolio.
 
“Increasing our range of private label solutions is right at the heart of ofi’s growth strategy,” said ofi Managing Director & CEO, Vivek Verma
 
“Combining Club Coffee’s expertise with ofi’s sustainable sourcing, we can use our sustainability insights platform AtSource to deliver product traceability to our customers, as well as giving them the ability to influence the wider economic, social and environmental impacts of our products and their supply chains,” Verma added.
 
Formed in 2020 following a reorganisation of Olam International, ofi, offers a range of coffee, cocoa, dairy, nuts and spices, including private label options.
 
Ofi is part of Singapore-based Olam Group, a major food and agri-business supplying food, ingredients, and agricultural feed to more than 29,000 customers in more than 60 countries around the world.
 
Olam Group also operates specialty green coffee businesses in the US and UK.
