London-based specialty coffee roaster Workshop Coffee has completed a £1m ($1.2m) funding round to support B2B growth and support the launch of a new website and e-commerce platform.

Supplying coffee shops, hotels and restaurants, Workshop Coffee has recently won wholesale contracts with the Raffles London, 1 Hotel Mayfair, The Langham and The Athenaeum hotels, as well as the British Library.

The funding round follows a successful Management Buyout (MBO) process and includes investments from multiple ‘new high net worth investors’ and Fleet-based investment fund The FSE Group.

“We are thrilled to have completed this funding round following our successful MBO. Our wholesale division is experiencing an unprecedented level of growth, and we’re very pleased to have welcomed several new 5-star hotels to our client base in recent months,” said James Dickson, Founder, Workshop Coffee.

Founded in 2011, Workshop coffee directly sources from producing countries in South and Central America, and East Africa. Alongside its B2B and e-commerce channels, the specialty coffee roaster also offers a subscription service and operates a coffee bar on London’s Regent Street.

The specialty coffee roaster has strengthened its management team within the last 12 months – appointing former Origin Coffee Operations Director Andy Phillips as CEO in 2023 and adding David Read as Chairman in January 2024.

Workshop Coffee joins fellow UK specialty coffee roasters 92 Degrees, Origin Coffee, Redemption Roasters and WatchHouse in securing new investment to pursue expansion within the last six months.
