Balzac's becomes official coffee supplier of The National Ballet of Canada
 

Ontario-based Balzac's Coffee Roasters is now the official coffee supplier of The National Ballet of Canada, with the brands’ specialty coffee served at all National Ballet events. The agreement will also see the two brands collaborate on various marketing initiatives to their respective audiences and communities, including sponsorships, sampling opportunities and on-site marketing activations.  


Indonesia’s Kopi Kenangan serves solar powered coffee 


Indonesian coffee chain Kopi Kenangan has opened an outlet in Jakarta which uses 18 solar panel modules to convert solar energy to ensure that every customer is served coffee produced by environmentally friendly renewable energy.  The company hopes that the store, opened in partnership with solar panel provider SUNterra and app provider Brab, will motivate the coffee industry to maximise the use of alternative energy. 


Boston Tea Party prevents 800,000 single use cups ending up in landfill 


UK café chain Boston Tea Party has reported that 800,000 single use coffee cups have been diverted from landfill since it initiated a disposable cup ban in 2018. As the first coffee chain in the UK to announce ban on use of disposable coffee cups, the pursuit of tackling the scale of single use cup waste remains at the forefront of BTP’s operations. To mark World Refill Day (16 June), Boston Tea Party is giving away 1,200 reusable coffee cups across its cafés to encourage more people to ‘choose to reuse’. 


Paulig and K Group plant 84,000 new coffee trees in Nicaragua 


A sustainability campaign launched by Finnish companies Paulig and K Group has resulted in 84,000 new coffee trees and 2,000 shade trees being planted in the village of Jose de la Luz, Nicaragua. The food and beverage company and grocery trader had set a goal of planting 70,000 new coffee plants at Paulig’s partner farms in Nicaragua when they renewed a cultivation collaboration in September 2021. Exceeding the target, the trees will help to improve the productivity of 15 coffee farms. 


Melitta Professional relaunch receives German Brand Award 


Having repositioned its own brand and realigned its entire brand identity, Melitta Professional has received the German Brand Award 2022 for outstanding brand management. Providing solutions in the out-of-home coffee market, the company has realigned its branding to focus on catering for professionals. The German Brand Award is presented annually with approximately 1,200 submissions considered in 2022 alone.
