The convenience store roll-out, which is projected to cost €50m ($50m), will see a further 80 outlets introduced in Petrom stations this year, before reaching 400 outlets by the end of 2023.

The agreement, first announced in February 2021, will see the Romanian petrol retailer incorporate Costa Coffee self-serve kiosks as part of the MyAuchan store roll-out. Of the first 200 to open, OVM Petrom has said that 110 include the Costa Coffee dedicated areas, but no figure was given for how many of the final 400 outlets will have a Costa Coffee presence.

“It is the first partnership of this kind in Romania, and I am glad that we started our journey with the partners from Auchan. Our customers appreciate both the diversified offer of products and the new, modern look of our locations. We will continue to improve the shopping experience in the Petrom network while we diversify the mobility offer,” said Radu Căprău, member of the OMV Petrom Directorate.

In October 2021 the coffee chain launched its 'Marlow' premium self-serve concept in four Belgian cities as part of plans to operate 200 units across the country.

In June 2022, Costa Coffee announced plans to roll-out 1,100 new Costa Express self-serve machines, capable of serving both hot and iced beverages, across the UK this summer. The company promotes the machines as a ‘world first’.
