Compass Group North America has snapped up Houston-based FreshBrew Group’s food & beverage vending division for an undisclosed sum.

In a press release, FreshBrew said offloading its vending business would enable the company to focus on expanding its coffee, tea, and extract production lines.

“Due to the rapid growth and continued expansion of our coffee and tea division, we felt that this was the ideal time to divest our vending operations," said Al Ansari, President and CEO of FreshBrew.

“Compass is the nation's largest vending operator and a leader in the foodservice industry, and we are confident they will continue to serve our loyal vending customers with the same quality and service standards as we have since 1997.”

Fresh Brew Group’s vending division offers food & beverage machines for a range of environments, including workplaces, education campuses and healthcare facilities. Its coffee offer includes Costa Coffee-branded smart café machines.

FreshBrew promotes that its vending business has grown into the largest independent market leader in Texas. The company is also one of the largest private label coffee and tea producers in the US, operating a 140,000sq ft roasting plant and warehouse and processing around 32,000 tonnes of coffee every year.

UK-based Compass Group is one of the world’s largest foodservice firms, with operations in 45 countries. North America is, however, a vital market for the company and where 61% of its revenues are generated.

Compass Group North America posted revenues of £11.2bn in ($14.6bn) in 2021.
