Seoul-based Lotte Department Store has secured exclusive franchise and distribution rights for Moroccan heritage coffee brand Bacha Coffee.

Lotte Department Store, which operates 32 department stores and 11 shopping centres across Seoul, Gyeonggi and Busan, will open its first Bacha Coffee outlet in the Cheongdam-dong ward of Gangnam-gu, Seoul, in July 2024.

In a press announcement, Lotte Department Store CEO Chung Joon-ho said negotiating the franchise deal with Singapore’s V3 Gourmet Group – which began operating the Bacha Coffee brand in 2019 – took 18 months. It plans to open more Bacha Coffee sites within its department stores over the next few years alongside establishing an e-commerce presence and forging B2B partnerships.

Although the franchise partnerships will mark Bacha Coffee’s bricks-and-mortar debut in South Korea, the heritage brand has sold its packaged retail coffee via a Lotte Duty Free concession store in Jeju, South Korea, since October 2023.

Originally founded in Marrakesh in 1910, Bacha Coffee currently operates 18 stores across Morocco, France, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, the UAE, Kuwait and Qatar.
