London-based specialty coffee roaster and café group WatchHouse has officially made its US debut with a store on New York’s 5th Avenue.
 
Located on the ground level of the 660 Fifth Avenue building, the 1,500sq ft store features an espresso bar serving a daytime specialty coffee menu alongside bakery and grab-and-go ranges. The venue will also offer an evening menu of cocktails and light meals with seating for 20 guests. 
 
Built in 1957, the 39-storey 660 Fifth Avenue building recently underwent a $400m renovation completed by owner Brookfield Properties. The new WatchHouse store was designed by Brooklyn-based architecture and design studio Sarah Carpenter & Studios to reflect ‘the one-of-a-kind identity and vibrancy of Midtown Manhattan.’
 
Commenting on WatchHouse’s first international location, CEO and Founder Roland Horne said opening on New York’s iconic 5th Avenue was “beyond exciting.”
 
“660 Fifth Avenue is a beautiful building in a central location that is appealing to Midtown workers and tourists alike. We look forward to continued expansion in New York City and the states,” Horne added.

Founded in London in 2014, WatchHouse has become one of the UK’s most celebrated specialty coffee businesses. The group now operates 17 ‘houses’, including a roastery-café in London’s Bermondsey and a venue in Bath – it’s first outside of the UK capital.
 
WatchHouse has been preparing for its US debut since late 2022, when it launched a crowdfunding campaign to support UK and international expansion. In January 2024 the business completed a £7.9m ($10m) funding round that will support ambitious plans to operate more than 500 outlets around the world by 2030.
