Ziggi’s Coffee has announced a new development deal to open 18 new stores across Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky.  
 

The Colorado-based drive-thru coffee chain operates 71 outlets across the US and has 140 units currently in development. Ziggi’s Coffee expects at least 30 new sites to open before the end of 2023 to reach its 100-store milestone. 

A new, unnamed franchisee will scale the coffee chain in Indiana and Illinois, where Ziggi’s coffee operates two stores and a single site respectively, and open the coffee chain’s first store in Kentucky.

Founded in 2004, Ziggi’s Coffee began franchising in 2016. 

Following surging demand during pandemic trading restrictions, US drive-thru operators continue to expand as consumers opt for greater convenience and speed of service. 

Starbucks, which operates a drive-thru function at 70% of its 9,300 company-operated US stores, expects 90% of new outlets in the country to be ‘high-returning drive-thru’ by 2025 with the format set to deliver 4% net new store growth annually for the Seattle-based coffee chain. 

Meanwhile, domestic drive-thru chains Dutch Bros and Scooter’s Coffee both anticipate reaching 800 stores across the US by the end of 2023. Oregon-based Dutch Bros reached 716 stores at the end of the quarter ended 31 March 2023, while Nebraska-based Scooter’s Coffee reached 600 stores across the US in April 2023.
