Missouri-based FairWave Coffee Collective has added Anodyne Coffee Roasting Co. to its growing group of specialty coffee businesses.

Wisconsin-based Anodyne becomes the 10th coffee business to join FairWave’s network of specialty independents, following the addition of Folly Coffee Roasters and Philtera Cold Brewed Coffees in May 2023.

According to a press release, Anodyne will continue regular operations across its four stores in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with founders, Matt McClutchy and Lacee Perry becoming partial owners in FairWave.

Anodyne’s wider leadership team, comprising Steve Kessler, Nolan Truttschel, Laura Lown and Stephanie Burton, will serve as FairWave's local Milwaukee ownership group, the press release added.

Kessler said Anodyne “will stay true to our customers while leveraging FairWave's resources.”

“With more than two decades of experience in the specialty coffee industry, Anodyne is bringing a wealth of talent and experience to the collective. Milwaukee has a strong sense of community with a vibrant food and beverage scene, and we couldn't be happier to launch in this market with such an incredible partner,” said Joe Marrocco, Vice President of Coffee Sourcing and Product Development at FairWave

FairWave describes itself as a collaboration of leading local coffee brands with a passion for specialty coffee.

The collective was formalised as FairWave in 2020 after taking stakes in Kansas City-based The Roasterie, which operates and roastery and six cafés, and Messenger Coffee, which has a roastery and four cafés.

FairWave also includes seven-strong café chain and roastery Spyhouse Coffee Roasters, Minneapolis-based roastery Up Coffee Roasters, Missouri-based single-store café Black Dog Coffeehouse and three-strong Filling Station Coffee Garage.

IBIS Bakery, which supplies Messenger Coffee and Black Dog Coffeehouse alongside a host of hospitality venues, is also part of the collective.
