Taiwanese bubble tea chain Gong cha is set to reach 2,000 stores globally with a new outlet in Boston, USA, due to open on 21 July 2023.

Gong cha will mark the milestone with a ‘Global Tea Party’ across its portfolio of stores, which span 23 countries. The event includes exclusive beverage promotions, competitions and a limited-edition Boston Cream Pie Bubble Tea.

“We are thrilled to celebrate the opening of Gong cha's 2,000th store with a global tea party. This milestone represents the unwavering support of our loyal customers and the dedication of our hardworking team. We invite bubble tea lovers from around the world to join us in this celebration, as we not only share delicious tea, but also create unforgettable memories together,” said Geoff Henry, President of the Americas at Gong cha.

Founded in 2006, Gong cha has a strong presence across Asian markets – including more than 700 stores across South Korea.

However, the bubble tea chain has cited North America as a key growth market and is seeking to reach 500 US outlets by 2025. If achieved, the US would become Gong cha’s second largest market.

Gong cha also has ambitious expansion plans in Europe. In June 2023, the bubble tea chain, which has its global headquarters in London, outlined an ambitious goal of opening 500 stores in the UK.

It is currently present across four European markets having launched in Belgium, France and Portugal within the last 12 months.
